My new tradition for the last few years is to plan a trip for my birthday.
This year we took a trip to Sea Ranch and it was wonderful!
Walks on the bluffs
Down on the beach

Some wild life
And we even watched a whale for a while. (not in this photo)
We took chairs from the house out to the bluff
On our way home we stopped at Fort Ross.
We had not been there for decades. It has a new Visitor's Center and was a fascinating place to visit!
Fort Ross, California was the hub of the southernmost Russian settlements in North America from 1812 to 1842.
In addition to farming and manufacturing, the Russian-American Company carried on its fur-trading business at Fort Ross, but by 1817, after 20 years of intense hunting by Spanish, American and British ships—followed by Russian efforts—had practically eliminated sea otter in the area.
Fort Ross was the site of California's first windmills and shipbuilding. Russian scientists associated with the colony were among the first to record California's cultural and natural history. The Russian managers introduced many European innovations such as glass windows, stoves, and all-wood housing into Alta California.
It was a great birthday celebration!
