Circus Anyone?

A few days ago I was helping MaryAnn and she said: Having twins with three other children is like a circus.  We have seriously thought about selling tickets and letting people come over to watch!
A Ring Master, clowns, acrobats, jugglers, tight rope walkers, lion tamers, trapeze artists--they have it all under their Big Top!
After helping for a few weeks, here is my perspective on twins:
I USED to think it would be so fun to have twins.  Two little babies that you would feed together and then put them for a nap together and then you would pose them together after dressing them in cute matching outfits.  I knew there would be more diapers to change and more of everything, but I never imagined what that would be like in reality.

One baby is eating but the other one gets fussy or needs a diaper change. You just get one to sleep and the other one wakes up.  Recently both babies were finally overlapping in being asleep.  MaryAnn said I think I will go to the bathroom.  As soon as she came back, one was awake needing something.   It really comes down to minutes when she has a break.
Taking care of the babies is very time consuming.  She is supposed to nurse them each every three hours around the clock.  It can take 20 to 40 minutes right now for a feeding for each one--do the math! But she also has to do the wash, prepare the meals, clean the house, make sure the other three kids are up, dressed, ready to go with homework done and a thousand other things that Moms do including trying to get some sleep.
Brian has been a super amazing support!  I wish they had time to take photos of all the creative and interesting ways Brian can hold two babies or get things done holding a baby.
Each baby is a totally unique individual with his or her own personality, digestive system, temperament, etc.  They each have different ways they like to be held and different ways to get them to sleep.  MaryAnn was having a problem with a possible infection developing and the doctor told her she needed to get more rest.  Maybe we should shoot the doctor out of the canon!
Many people have helped them in many ways. It has been wonderful.
The kids have been great troopers too.
The twins will be 6 weeks old tomorrow.  I can see that the circus is slowly turning into a star-studded Broadway production!

Mr. D!

I recently discovered that a large portion of the readership of my blog is made up of my grandchildren!  Yes, we go for quality over quantity here at ...in rich measure...!
I think this year it would be nice to highlight each one of them on their birthday for sure, and I missed Daniel who had  his 4th birthday earlier in January.
So here is Mr. D!
(Also known as Darryl's Mini Me!)
Born in Kiev, Ukraine--that already makes him unique.
Dan and I first met him in Calgary, Canada!
And later we got better acquainted in Seattle!
We love having this active guy living nearby!
Daniel and I have an ongoing "argument" over which one of us loves the other the most:
To Daniel: I love you super duper duper duper much!  Top that!!

It's January!

When I opened my new calendar for 2013
I loved the picture for January!
It was called "Winter Barn."
What fun when I discovered there was a puzzle
of the same painting.
We finished it tonight!

Medieval Time Out!

Even though they don't look like it, Jeff's family had a lot of fun at the
Children's Museum!

And even more fun back at home with Dad!

Love All These Grandchildren!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Aubrey is #21 born in 2011.
The twins are #'s 25 and 26 born in 2012!

Who will make it #27 in 2013?

Congratulations Darryl and Amanda!
And thanks for the cute card on Christmas Day--
I did not suspect a thing until I got to the bottom!
I thought it was some seed drawings Kathryn did for school..
I guess I should have read Kathryn's letter to Santa.
The last sentence on the page says:
"Mom keeps saying she has no pants that fit so please bring her new clothes!"
(The 2nd Grade teacher found out before me!)
