Elizabeth organized a Book Club for the cousins! She emailed everyone ahead of time so they would have time to get and read the book. She chose this book because it happened in a nearby place we would be visiting, San Francisco!
Everyone gathered for the discussion:
Courtney was helping too:
Elizabeth had made up a Jeopardy game with questions about the book in different categories. It was lots of fun!
Courtney had put it in a Power Point:
After the discussion, we split into 2 groups for activities.
There was a poem in the book so the
first activity was Poetry Writing where we learned about different kinds of poetry including Couplet, Limerick, Acrostic, Haiku and Shape. Each person wrote a poem! Some used the letters of their first name to describe themself and one person wrote a poem about apples in the shape of an apple!
(Thanks for lots of help from MaryAnn!)
Meanwhile the other group was doing the 2nd activity. After the earthquake, there was lots of service provided to those in need.
So the kids made and wrote on cards as a service to someone that deserved their thanks!
After the activities, no self-respecting Book Club would be complete without refreshments! Because the earthquake took place in the early morning hours, the girls decided on breakfast foods: cinnamon rolls and fruit:
Here are all of the book club participants!
Afterwards there was a little time for Upset the Fruit Basket!
Great job, girls!
